Pension Board OKs July Payroll and Pension Plan Debate

The Fire and Police Pension Board approved a July payroll totaling 11 775 for the period ending July 31. Board Chairman Anderson questioned City Attorney Keller’s opinion on general monthly payments but no action contradicted the opinion. Keller noted the legislature ended existing pension systems to benefit all participants. A bloc vote on group insurance showed police at 70 to 66 against, fire at 119 to 4 in favor, and alarm operators split three to three. The plan required 75 percent continuance, and July payments used 64 390.70 in on-hand surplus plus 8 207.17 from parking meter receipts.
