Old Indian Homes Yield Secrets Now to Busy Students

CHICAGO July 21 U81 Dead men tell no tales but even primitive races leave behind unpremeditated records of how they lied. A group of advanced anthropology students at the University of Chicago study mounds and campsites of the Niinola black sand Indians who lived about 5,000 years ago. Investigations in Fulton county Illinois yielded skeletons of 40 of these prehistoric aborigines last year, while earlier explorations brought nearly 1,000 skeletons and more than 10,000 tools and ornaments. Prof Hay Cooper Cole, head of the anthropology department, says Tilmois was a center of trade and progress in the Mississippi Valley. At least four distinct Indian cultures prevailed in the state at one time, Dr Cole believes.
