Negro Primary Suit Total On Saturday
Federal Judge Charles A Boynton will decide if Democrats can bar Black voters from the primary in Bexar County. The case echoes the 1927 Supreme Court ruling voiding state prohibitions on Black voting in Democratic primaries. Plaintiffs contend the party enforces unequal voter qualifications, while officials argue parties set their own rules. The suit parallels earlier Texas efforts to redefine who may participate in primaries.
