Mrs. Alvis Belcher of Del Rio, mother of Judge Belcher, travels with the judge as they head to Corpus Christi. Belcher ancestry traces to John Emberson who settled in Lamar County in 1818 after marrying Carter’s daughter. Emberson fought in New Orleans with Jackson and later sold cattle to U.S. Army posts. The piece weaves family links through Denton, Angelina, Dawson, Karnes, and Kenedy counties, noting events and notable locals such as Pleas Butler and Bill Butler influencing early settlers and cattle trade in North Texas.
