Mellen resigns as New Haven president amid board split
Charles Mellen's resignation as president of the New York New Haven & Hartford Railroad is accepted with the timing of successor selection left to a special committee. Possible successors include Howard Elliott of Northern Pacific and Daniel Willard of Baltimore & Ohio. Directors, including Rockefeller and Morgan, attended the meeting amid mixed reactions to his leadership. Mellen, since 1903, oversaw massive consolidation and expansion, but stock declined and an anti trust indictment looms while a reform committee studies the railroad's affairs.
