Depositors Get Money From Citizens State Bank Closure
FDIC reported paying 6.737 million dollars to Citizens State Bank depositors after the Texas Banking Commission ordered its closure. About 16300 percent of insured deposits were returned to 102.86 of the bank's 4200 depositors, with payouts expected to continue for up to 18 months. The bank, tied to Eagle Pass business interests, faced loans likely uncollectible and had its assets turned over to the FDIC on July 5 after a Texas court upheld the closing.

Dollar Drain Pact Skipped in US West Germany Talks
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said no further formal agreements will be pursued to offset the cost of stationing U.S. troops in West Germany. Reporters were told after questions about whether the offset deals would end, as West German officials considered a declaration. Officials from both sides stated the pact could be dropped since the U.S. and West Germany have committed to buying enough U.S. goods, including weapons, to offset the dollars spent on troop support.
