Passion Play in 1922 to feature new faces at Oberammergau
Oberammergau officials plan thirty performances for 1922 with potential expansion if attendance requires. The village faces a 1,500,000 mark cost to stage the Passion Play, relying on burghers from woodwork, pottery, and farming to fund it. Selection of reading roles in October will honor villagers, with former Jesus actor Anton Lang favored to reprise the part.

Funeral for Lost Battalion hero Monson with full military honors
New York July 16 Full military honors marked the funeral of Private John J. Monson, hero of the Lost Battalion, who died in Belleuve hospital after illness while on leave. Monson carried the message that reunited the Lost Battalion in the Argonne on September 28, 1918. Dozens of organizations planned fitting tributes as his body was carried to Church of the Ascension. Technically he was absent without leave, but the charge was dropped. Memorial efforts for heroic soldiers have begun.

Livestock Freight Rates Face West Industry Debate
Washington July 16. Interstate Commerce Commission heard railroads and livestock interests clash over freight rates. Burgess for railroads argued current rates don’t reflect livestock industry conditions in the West and urged no rate reductions. Nowan of American Livestock Association countered reductions could protect producers, while citing a $30 million annual request by shippers. Other speakers noted economic impacts and potential benefits to producers from rate changes. Also includes brief Texas charter notices for multiple companies.
