Express Rates Cut in Reform Report on Parcel Service
The Interstate Commerce Commission released a long awaited report proposing about a 15 percent average cut in express rates, major regulatory reforms, and a shift to fairer charges based on weight and distance. It concludes small packages under 12 pounds face the steepest reductions, with 21 cents as a minimum, while larger parcels see lesser changes. The study notes over 300 million parcels are handled yearly and expects new rates to boost farm to city trade and reduce the burden on light-weight shipments. After a hearing in October, a supplementary order will set the new rates into effect as feasible.
