Wagon Test at Leon Springs Foreshadows Larger Escort Trains
Provisional infantry regiment tests whether eleven escort wagons can guard a regiment under field conditions at Leon Springs. Two wagons carry rations, two carry forage, others hold equipment. Critics fear reduced comfort, disrupted unit cohesion, and more unpacking on marches. Regimental leadership is Colonel Van Orsdale. Major W. S. Scott escorts 36 prisoners to Alcatraz. Last Eighteenth infantry section leaves Fort McKenzie. Eleventh infantry follows. 200 men to be transported. Bid results due at base quartermaster office. Rumor says third brigade and Eleventh cavalry may return by August 1.
