Atom Curb Plan Pushed Amid United Nations Debate

New York July 13 advocates of Australian American proposals for an autonomous international atomic control agency pushed ahead on a course that may lead to a showdown with Russia over the veto in the United Nations. The group acknowledged Russia could block any amendment by invoking the veto but pressed on, suggesting the UN charter and structure may be outdated for the atomic age. The discussions followed a tense 12 nation atomic working committee meeting where Evatt of Australia and Baruch of the United States urged stronger steps while Gromyko defended sharing atomic secrets but opposed 12 nation subcommittees. Police reported jewelry theft on West Travis Street and a sequence of county bid notices and road work proposals in Bexar County. Death notices include Mrs. Rata House, age 70, with services scheduled.
