Ryan's New York Gallery Aims Atop Religious Art Treasury
Leading New York art collector Thomas Fortune Ryan quietly builds a superb house gallery on Sixty seventh Street and Fifth Avenue. The collection concentrates on religious art with Limoges enamels from the Penicaud family, early reliquaries, champleve enamel pieces, and a life size Giovanni di Bologna school bronze Crucifixion. A crucifixion, Saint Teresa and San Pedro figures, and a Michel Colomb Pieta anchor the impressive gallery alcove.

Ryan's Art Collection Expands with Renaissance Pieces
The centerpiece is a marble bust of Princess Beatrice of Aragon by Laurana, valued around $200,000. Dr. Bode praises it among the finest Italian Renaissance works of women. A companion bust, likely a prince of Aragon, is attributed to Pietro da Milano. The Yerkes Indian hunting rug, Chinese porcelains, and Etruscan relics enrich the display alongside a Madonna and Child relief by Mino da Fiesole and a terra cotta Pieta by della Robbia. A sixteenth century stained glass window by Giovanni Tiepolo adorns the ceiling. Mr. Ryan plans a new Sixty-seventh Street picture gallery and uses the old Yerkes house on Sixty-eighth Street for an Italian garden as part of the expansion.
