Crash Victim Here Four Years
First Lieutenant Hugh C. Minter, killed in an air crash in California on Friday, and Lieutenant John R. Merritt, who narrowly escaped death, were both formerly stationed at local flying fields. Minter was a flying instructor at Brooks Field and transferred to March Field about four years ago. Merritt, a Kelly Field flying cadet graduate last October, was ordered to active duty at March Field after serving as an enlisted man at Kelly Field and a clerk in the post operations office. The home is in Bawis, Texas. The crash involved Minter’s plane being severed by the propeller of a ship piloted by Merritt during a cross-over turn, reports say. He was believed to have been instantly killed.
