Spirit of Progress Leads Montgomery Ward and Co
The Spirit of Progress statue marks Montgomery Ward and Co in Chicago as a symbol of leadership. The letter argues for staying with low prices as commodity levels fall, noting Ward’s long tradition of value, quality, and dependable service despite unemployment and weak exports. It cites large payrolls, rising savings, and Ward’s aggressive price cuts effective now. The Byrd Antarctic Expedition used Ward’s stock, deemed satisfactory from Dunedin New Zealand.
