Czech Night Fighter Ace Awarded Bar in RAF

London July 7 Figh Lieut Charles Kattelgnecher known as Hutte a Czech night fighter ace who hovered over German airfields in occupied France and Belgium and shot down bombers was awarded a bar today for the Distinguished Flying Medal. Since the award two weeks ago he has added 12 more hits for a total of 22 German aircraft shot down.

French Youth Held in Bombing Case

French authorities report 20 year old Georges Bernard confessed after detention to involvement in the attempt to assassinate pro-Nazi editor Marcel Dent with a bomb in Tours on March 21. He also admitted derailing a German freight train last month.

Air Forces chief named for Europe in war theater

Gen. Carl Spaatz, noted for the Ques- Vion Mark endurance flight and World War I exploits, is appointed commander in chief of the United States Army Air Forces in the European theater. He awards the Distinguished Flying Cross to three crew members from the first U S attack on Nazi-held western Europe and confirms missing air crews from the July 4 raid. Spaatz, aged 51, nicknamed Toughie, has been in England since June preparing the air campaign against Germany. He is a West Point graduate of 1914, native of Boyertown, Pa, and married with three daughters.

Rainy spell drenches Texas towns with heavy rainfall

West coast labor leader Harry Bridges seeks release from the deportation order issued by Attorney General Biddle. Tokyo radio and Navy Ministry reports claim complete results of the Pratt Harbor attack show five U S battleships sunk four battleships and? two cruisers and one tanker sunk four cruisers and two destroyers damaged.
