Kansas flood toll rises across Southeast streams
Flood waters still choked several rivers in Southeast Kansas with major damage along the Neosho near Emporia. The Neosho submerged about 35,000 acres in Lyon County while the Cottonwood and Marais des Cygnes also caused heavy impacts. As waters rose on the Marais des Cygnes near Ottawa, safety crews evacuated around 100 farm families. Traffic stalled on U S Highway 60 east of Emporia and drivers faced dangerous conditions on Highway 11. Meteorologist S. D. Flora warned the peak would reach Missouri today, with danger receding downstream toward the Mississippi River.
