Judging by the Past on US Mexican War Invasion

The Washington Post notes the 1847 war began with clashes similar to today. General Taylor led 7000 men at Monterey before retreating southern advances. Scott then captured Vera Cruz with 12000 troops, took six months to reach the capital, and defeated Mexican forces at Mexico City. Estimates place Mexican forces around 50000 vs about 300000 Americans. Mexico City defenses and approaches are stronger today, but the U.S. army with National Guard and volunteers would meet an emergency if war occurred.
