Controversial Willie Nelson Picnic Ends After 24 Hours
A South Texas farm site near Gonzales saw crowds peak at about 80 000 for a Willie Nelson Fourth of July festival before drifting to 4 000–6 000 by noon Monday. Local authorities denied a three day permit, limiting events to a 24 hour picnic amid reports of nudity and marijuana use. The Gonzales County sheriff's department reported the gathering was relatively orderly as crowds dispersed and fines for permit violations loomed.
