Germans Reach Camp Perry After Normandy Invasion
The first contingent of German POWs captured in the Normandy invasion arrived at Camp Perry Ohio. Prisoners, still in prior uniforms, were marched into the camp and placed in quarantine as officials assessed their status. Many had fought in North Africa and Rosape, with questions from U S guards about the invasion. The arrival marks the invasion as a confirmed fact for the prisoners, as they join Italian and other captives now held for labor assignments in northwestern Ohio.
