South signals no new push on civil service amendment
Fire and Police Commissioner Raymond B. South told a legislative hearing he will not seek further authority to report to the civil service commission. He said he would only name members if the city council approves, and that the fire and police departments should elect and be responsible to the people. He favored allowing the commission to start investigations rather than the chief initiating them, arguing the current rule places the departments on the spot with their men.
