California Demos Study Belt at Democratic Convention
LOS ANGELES July 4 UP1 An anti Truman faction split California's 54 member delegation in the Democratic National Convention. Three delegates publicly said they will nominate a candidate other than Truman and one claimed more than half do not feel Truman is the best choice. State Chairman James Roosevelt said most delegates do not consider themselves bound by the pledge to Truman. Roosevelt noted delegates at a San Luis Obispo meeting last week would wait to see the Philadelphia situation before acting. Ike mentioned, he reported favorable reaction from various parties to a "well and wen" attitude. Names Gen Eisenhower and Justice William O Douglas were among the most frequently discussed options.
