Eleanor Roosevelt Writes on Chicago Democratic Convention
In this instalment Eleanor Roosevelt recounts her Chicago trip amid the 1940 Democratic Convention, detailing talks with Frances Perkins Jim Farley and Franklin D Roosevelt about Henry Wallace as running mate, the tense candidacy dynamics, and the personal strains on the Roosevelt family including Elliott’s military service and public attacks. The narrative blends political strategy with domestic reflections as Roosevelt describes invitations, decisions, and the evolving support for war measures and allied actions.
