SAISD May Consider New Wheatley Plan And Closures
The San Antonio ISD board weighs closing Wheatley High and replacing it with a new facility named after Dr. Harold Igl as part of a $40 million building program. The plan shifts eight secondary schools, preserves Jefferson, Highlands, Sam Houston, Barbin and Lawler, and would convert Brackenridge and Edison area uses while expanding facilities across the district. The superintendent sought bond funding and proposed a $41,300 salary for 1970, with later increases, while a community center proposal for Wheatley was discussed but not acted on.
