Cartwright Credited as Baseball’s True Inventor in Hawaii
In Hawaii, Alexander Joy Cartwright is hailed as baseball’s inventor. He drew up early rules, staged the first nine inning game, and taught the game to Polynesian players during the 1840s and 1850s before moving west to the gold fields and later returning to Hawaii where he died in 1893. The piece contrasts Cartwright’s legacy with Doubleday’s Mills Commission attribution and notes local leagues, ethnic team makeups, and ongoing island baseball culture.

Wright Ranked No 1 Challenger in Jeffra Title Fight
Wright is named the No 1 challenger for Harry Jeffra and will post a $1000 forfeit to seal a title bout within 30 days. The New York State athletic commission lists him as top contender, while the NBA previously accorded him recognition though it backs Petey Senkzo as champion. Jeffra signed for a February 18 defense in Washington, a match unlikely to proceed as a formal title defense.
