San Antonio River Authority to file suit over ammonia discharge
The San Antonio River Authority authorized filing a joint suit with the state against Merchants Ice and Cold Storage Co. for alleged ammonia discharge into waters draining into the San Antonio River, killing many fish on Jan 10. The board cited Texas Water Quality Act violations and discussed potential action against Howell Refining Co. if it fails to secure a water quality permit. The meeting also covered a sewage system transfer to Converse and plans to discontinue a Kirby storage plant, with bids approved for a bridge on San Juan Mission road and new board members sworn in.
