Regional radiation center planned for San Antonio expansion
Gaylon Finkler reports on a proposed $2 million regional cobalt therapy center to be built in the South Texas Medical Center. The South Texas Cancer Radiation Treatment Center would serve 1.1 million people and handle about 67.2 thousand yearly treatments, with completion aimed for 1978. No expansion at Baptist Memorial, Nix, Santa Rosa, or Bexar County hospitals is allowed. The Health Coordinating Committee of the Alamo Area Council of Governments gave favorable comments and will forward to the AACOG executive committee for final review.

Bustamante urges regional hospitals to aid indigents
County Commissioner Albert Bustamante advocates seven major regional county hospitals to serve medically indigent residents across the state. He notes 14 counties lack physicians and 28 have five or fewer, with current indigent care costing about 50 million dollars annually. He warns the issue will worsen in five years and calls for zoning reform, judicial changes, and county home rule to reduce duplications among governments. He also supports state legislation to regulate drunken driving and revise the constitution.
