Senate Votes General's Rank to Billy Mitchell
The Senate approved elevating Billy Mitchell to major general in posthumous recognition for his advocacy of air power. Senator Wiley announced the move transferring the brigadier general rank to major general, with the measure awaiting House action. Senators Bennett Clark and Stark praised Mitchell as an early air power leader who warned of aviation's importance and suffered demotion and court martial despite foresight. Mitchell reportedly died “of a broken heart” after his controversial career.

Cruiser warfare in the Pacific foretold as key shift in strategy
CAPT John H. Craigh discusses why cruiser warfare might revive as a major Allied tactic in the Pacific, arguing long sea lanes, vast transport networks, and the Japanese air campaign create a target-rich environment for commerce raiders and small craft. He cites Adm. Hart and notes limits of battleship power and the need for mobile, lighter forces.
