The jury in the G. J. McManus versus W. D. Syers commission on sale of property case was discharged at 11 this morning after failing to agree. Special Judge Earl Scott presided in district court with Judge Birkhead away at Brownsville for federal duties.
Washer Bros. departs from horse drawn delivery wagons as they acquire a Chalmers 30 auto delivery car from Auto Sales and Supply. Manager Duggar says the move saves costs, improves reliability, and enhances delivery speed for customers amid growing non horse drawn fleets.
Dr. J. S. Abbott state pure food and dairy commissioner led samples of milk and meat collected in San Antonio with assistants and inspectors. Samples were sent to Austin for lab tests with possible prosecutions if standards are not met. Abbott plans ongoing sampling and investigation of citizen complaints.
Father P. Titus a Franciscan missionary from St. Louis will open a weeklong mission at Sacred Heart church 2514 West Commerce Street Sunday at 10:30 AM. Rev. Father A Heuchmer assists as daily masses and German sermons are planned with 8:30, 9:00 and 7:45 schedule.
At the first annual Y M C A members banquet in San Antonio over 100 members are expected to attend. J C Goldsborough chairs the special membership committee. The program features a Y M C A quartet song by Lentz Schillings Pilbeam and Knight and readings by Alberta Gilbert. Speakers include Victor Keller C C Todd Paul Scholz and E E Dilley with open discussions planned.
G W Caldwell, former San Antonian, named superintendent of Medina dam construction in Mexico and will supervise main and diversion dams. He will assist Chief Engineer Kearney, freeing him to tackle technical problems as the project advances. J E Wing, Chicago alfalfa expert, left San Antonio with soil samples to evaluate Medina land for potential alfalfa crops.
The Thirty seventh district court grand jury for the January term remains unorganized as Judge Edward Dwyer is absent and may not return soon. Dwyer is in Brownsville as a defense witness in the Chapa case. a telegram says he does not know when he will return. Poll tax payments and marriage licenses are noted along with several names.
An advertisement urges avoiding kidney and bladder trouble with Foley's Kidney Pills. It claims quick results and prompt relief from irregularities, promoting Edwards King Drug Co. as the supplier.
The Bexar county commissioners court authorized a $549 warrant to J P Pool Victoria county judge for Chapin trial costs transferred from the county. They allocated $3000 from the general fund to the county convict arm. H M Gilbert county precinct No 7 constable resigned.
Construction has begun on the tuberculosis colony at Carlsbad fourteen miles from San Angelo in Tom Green county. Frank H. Bushick of Corpus Christi, a member of the commission in charge, arrived to review accounts and discuss matters with State Health Officer Steiner.
