Direct Loan Measures Move To House Committees

Washington reports a flood of new measures sent to House committees, including a plan to permit direct loans to industry under an approved code of fair competition. The RPO bill would authorize loans up to 50 percent of property value or receivables, secured by land, buildings, machinery or orders, and backed by a stabilization currency proposal. Other proposals seek veterans’ pensions and increased compensation, conversion to a stabilized gold or silver currency, free coinage, extended reconstruction loans, larger direct farm loans, interstate tax rate alignment, county loan bureaus, and repeal of the 1917 Prohibition-era mail restrictions.
