British Troops Barricade Belfast Club. 100 Arrested
In Belfast, British soldiers smashed a barricaded Roman Catholic club near the Dockside, arresting 100 inside after a clash with patrons. The raid came as soldiers used gas canisters and force to enter the St Marys Club, injuring two club members and a soldier, while 200 patrons fought back with bottles and objects before order was restored and detainees handed to police. An earlier raid targeted IRA suspects in Ardoyne, and a schoolhouse was wrecked by an explosion in Tyrone with no injuries. Continuous violence in Northern Ireland continued to claim lives and injuries.
