Ring Out- Precarious 1932 Sports Year
Davis Walsh surveys 1932 as a year of great athletic triumphs for America amid deep financial strain on professional sports. He notes record breaks in track and golf, Wimbledon and Olympic feats, and high attendance at major events, while league games and boxing faced price-cut pressures and reduced crowds. The piece laments the era of poverty affecting sports and the uneven popularity of events across disciplines.
