Zoning Bill Delayed in House Subcommittee

Austin An intergovernmental affairs subcommittee postponed action on Rep Tony Dramberger of San Antonio bill to let county commissioners regulate land use outside city limits. The measure would require a county zoning plan hearings and an election for residents outside incorporated areas. Proponents argue it prevents nuisances and protects outside residents while opponents warn it infringes property rights and state ownership exemptions. The subcommittee voted to study an amendment exempting state lands before advancing the proposal.
