Dark intellectual Dr. Hermann N. Sander stood trial in Hillsborough county superior court in Manchester for the alleged mercy killing of cancer patient Abbie C. Horroto. The 41 year old physician faced a murder charge as proceedings began at 10 13 a m before Judge Marold E. Westott with 145 potential jurors seated.
Washington reports Judge Rich Mead B Keech extended for ten days his temporary restraining order against the nationwide soft coal strike. The court will decide whether to issue a Taft Hartley law injunction as miners refuse to return to work, with possible presidential action to seize mines discussed as talks continue on a new wage contract.

Rep Crawford of Michigan paid 53.50 to secure release after two nights in Prince Georges county jail on an assault charge. He pleaded guilty before Magistrate Alan Howie, fined 25 and 24.50 costs. Crawford had refused cash bond, saying cash bonds are illegal, and criticized bondsmen as profiteers while in jail.

The dukes and duchess of Windsor returned to San Antonio after a weekend visit, their second in the city. Flames swept a Danish steamship in fog at Kattegat strait early today forcing 108 passengers to abandon ship in lifeboats. All 108, traveling from Oslo to Copenhagen aboard the 3038 ton Kronprins Olav, were saved by a Swedish American liner that answered the distress call.
Judge Robert O. Sawtelle levied a $2 parking fine Monday and paid it himself. The offense was charged to Mrs. H G Booth Jr of 421 Pasehalst, a PTA member, who claimed she did not solicit parking slabs at the end of the block near Travis Elementary School. Sacielie asked her to announce the parking restrictions at the meeting and then paid her fine.
