San Antonio Schools Expand Vocational Training
The San Antonio school system is expanding vocational and technical training at high schools and may move job training into junior high schools. Portwood notes growth at Burbank, Lanier, Brackenridge, Edison, and Fox Tech with auto mechanics, electricians, drafting, and other trades. The aim is to reduce dropouts by preparing noncollege students for productive, self reliant work in the local economy, though costs exceed several hundred thousand dollars.
