San Antonio Leads Texas Fire Control Record 1940

Fire and Police Commissioner Louis Lipscomb disclosed San Antonio posted the lowest fire losses among major Texas cities in 1940, totaling 149 579 dollars. Fort Worth, Houston, and Dallas suffered far higher losses per capita, while San Antonio's per capita loss was only 52 cents, earning praise for resident cooperation and department efficiency. State Fire Insurance Commissioner Marvin Hall announced maximum good fire credit of 25 percent for San Antonio, with Dallas and Fort Worth at 19 percent and Houston at 15 percent. Low premiums and reliance on the city department contribute to the city’s advantageous insurance standings, despite underinsurance and a lagging net fire insurance premium total of 725,627 dollars for 1940.
