President Taft approved the retirement of former Adjutant General Ainsworth late today. The unexpected move suggests there will be no court martial in the case.
Congress likely to probe the war department over the Ainsworth Wood dispute after Adjutant General Fred C. Ainsworth is suspended pending court martial. Leonard Wood and Secretary Stimson are central figures as a special court is formed, with trials expected to be swift and held perhaps at the War College or Fort Myer.
Division Superintendent G. H. Hurdleston of the Katy transportation department, injured in a La Grange wreck yesterday, had his right leg amputated early today but the operation went well and he is expected to recover.
Governor Colquitt issued a strong statement asserting he will not dictate or influence local or county offices. He said he will refrain from partisan involvement and will not reveal preferences for any United States senator or local posts. The stance ends speculation about his role in Lexar county and San Antonio politics.
