Japs Treating U.S. Civilians Better Than Soldiers
The American Red Cross reports civilian internees in Japanese held territories fare better than military camps. About 8,800 Americans remain in the Far East, with around 8,900 in internment camps. A central committee, aided by subgroups, runs sanitation, health, kitchens, education, and recreation, making camps livable. Food shortages persist with mush, rice, and limited meat and dairy. Most civilians are in seven camps, four in the Philippines, one in Shanghai, and one in Wellaston North China.
