UN Says Hold Palestine Arms
The United Nations Palestine Commission moved to forestall seizure of military stores by warring factions as the British mandate ends. It urged Britain to safeguard tanks and armored cars and rejected Britain's plan to leave arms "as they are" for transfer to the commission May 16. Freedom Train rolls into San Antonio on Lincoln's birthday
The Freedom Train arrives in San Antonio Thursday on Lincoln's birthday. Plans by veterans groups and churches mark American Heritage week with Freedom Sunday sermons on worship freedom. City displays of historical documents begin Monday at the library and the train opens to the public 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. behind Ft Sam Houston headquarters. Mayor Alfred C. Callaghan and Gen. Thomas T. Handy greet delegates. no admission fee. The train tour started in Philadelphia last year and stops include the original manuscript of the Declaration of Independence and the Emancipation Proclamation.
