Opera Festival Delivers Aida Lucia Spectacular In San Antonio
San Antonio's eleventh grand opera festival drew about 11,000 patrons including Gov. and Mrs. Shivers to municipal auditorium. Astrid Varnay starred as Aida with Kurt Baum, Lily Pons, and Eugene Conley in key roles, as Alvaro staged a lavish production under Musical Director. Rain delayed arrivals, but the event showcased superb staging, artistry, and audience acclaim for both performances.
