Protest over Constable Wimet arrests roils county offices
A vigorous protest was made to Bexar county commissioners regarding Constable Marcus Wimet s wholesale arrests of motorists in Atascosa and surrounding areas. The delegation from Patent Jourdanton and Pleasanton argued Wimet has gone wild arresting citizens who exceeded speed limits near Sarlandale. Superintendent W M Burks reported many cases were appealed to county courts at law. Deputies in Atascosa County allegedly threatened to arrest Wimet if he crossed the county line and he could be charged with pistol-toting. Commissioners said to take no action beyond consulting Criminal District Attorney John R Bheck. The protest followed a dispute over speeding prosecutions and appeals.
