Oklahomaman Homer Berry Flies First American Bomber Ferry To England
Oklahoma born Homer Berry becomes the first American to ferry a bomber across the Atlantic on the new route to Britain. The PBYs, nicknamed Caledonians, carried 4000 pounds of bombs or torpedoes and a 45 4009 mile range, with Berry guiding the flight through night blacked out conditions while RAF patrols warned of danger. Berry, previously a wartime pilot in France and later Bell Aircraft chief test pilot, brought a new era of American airlift to support Britain as cross-Atlantic convoys remained vital.

Greeks Delay Action on Cift Planes Requested
Washington February reports Greece debated accepting a U S offer of 30 military planes while denying a rejection. Navy Secretary Knox said Greece turned down a free transfer of 30 aircraft from the carrier Wasp but Greek officials claimed a misunderstanding and awaited Athens instructions. Officials noted Britain had ordered stocks that might supply newer planes, while 30 planes could be considered obsolete or useful as training. A Light Want Ad urged readers to Broadway at Fifth for a job.
