San Francisco Feb 21 Tens of thousands of Tong Idle Vessels workers weighed settlement terms as strike ends appeared likely. Shipments resumed and first sailings were tentatively set for today and tomorrow. Minor violence erupted in Los Angeles as ballots were counted, a photographer broke an ankle falling from a ladder.

Cleburne February 2 UPI Ed Martin of Grandview is jailed on murder charges after the death of his father Henry Martin a Grandview landowner who was shot in his Port Worth home January 18. The son had been free on $6000 bond on an assault to murder charge.
In Plint Michigan on February 2 a women’s emergency brigade, wives and daughters of union auto workers, clashed with police at Chevrolet Plant No. 1. They wore red berets and white armbands, broke windows with clubs, faced tear gas, and attempted to form a protective line for striking workers. Inside the plant, the only fighting occurred.
Ainert M Delamater of 129 McMuhen Street pleaded guilty to the theft of clothing valued at 21.50 from Mueller at 109 Alamo Plaza. In County Court No 1 before Judge McCollum Burnett he was sentenced to six months in the county jail.
Portland reports six dead as flood and storm toll grows. Road plows and milder temps bring partial relief while fear of fire and rising danger to trapped communities persist. Storm damages linger. schools remain closed and limited streetcar service resumes as workers struggle to reach jobs before dawn.
Police chief Owen Kilday announced that the department would forbid use of automatic pistols after a survey by police secretary Ed Pyfel.
