Cigarette Evidence Links Suspect to Morrison Slaying
A 26 year old Black laborer at Kelly Field was identified as the killer of 62 year old Cus Morrison at the San Antonio arsenal. Morrison was stabbed Sunday night in the 300 block of North Pine Street during an attempted robbery. A cigarette butt found at the scene led investigators to suspect Barrera who denied the charge until confronted with the cigarette pack. He later confessed to stabbing Morrison with a pocket knife claiming self defense after Morrison allegedly tried to rob him. Barrera said he fled to his sister in law’s home on Potomac Street leaving a blood stained jacket there. Police aided by Detectives Bentler Long and Neal reported the case.
