Truce Hinted In Dispute On Radio Music
In New York a late possible truce between ASCAP and the radio industry emerged as talks continued to avert a broader clash. John G Paine said a settlement could be reached if willing to cooperate, while broadcasters signaled a business basis only and noted that negotiations must be driven by ASCAP. The dispute centers on a five year contract with ASCAP seeking seven and a half percent of gross income from commercial programs. The suit may be filed after January 1 in Milwaukee by the music central figure Thurman Arnold.
