London reports at 1 pm show Prime Minister Lloyd George and his government poised for a large victory. Of 358 announced seats, at least 274 back the government, with Labour gaining some ground and Sinn Fein and Irish Nationalists shaping the balance.

Five defeated candidates listed in narrow election results

Five candidates have been defeated in various constituencies. Charlotte Despard, sister of Viscount French, lost North Battersea to Richard Morris of the coalition Liberal, Morris 7231 to 5634. Sir Eric Geddes beat T R Williams in Cambridge. Albert Stanley was re-elected at Aghaton Under Lyne over I F Lister. In Blackburn, Henry Norman led Coalition Liberal to two seats, Snowden defeated with 15,274 votes good for no seat.

Ratification debate on proposed prohibition amendment

Hattimore Maryland December 28 ratification of the federal prohibition amendment is opposed by Senour Looinia Haven Connecticut secretary of the Seed Economic Science section of the American Association for the advancement of Nee in an address at today’s meeting. The amendment supposedly inserts police regulation into the constitution, which is argued to be inappropriate for a document defining government principles. Mr Toomis contends the amendment was never properly passed by Congress as two thirds of each base did not vote for it.
