UAW Votes On Contract At Bendix Plant
In Bendix New Jersey the United Automobile Workers vote today on a proposed contract with Al Assatinics incorporated after the army seized the plant. The agreement would raise wages by ten cents an hour, reclassify 589 production workers, provide overtime pay after eight hours or 40 hours per week, set seniority rules and a grievance procedure, and maintain union membership through a modified shop. The deal also calls for minimum wage increases from 40 cents to 50 cents for women and 1 dollar for men. The army took over the strike plagued plant with six million dollars in defense orders on October 20.
