Christmas Carols at St Mary's Church Enthrall City

St Mary's Church held the largest Christmas attendance yesterday with a midnight mass and a 10 o'clock concert. Professor Katzenberger led organ and choir, Mrs Katzenberger sang Ave Maria with violin by Joseph McAllister, and solos by Douglas, Lord, Captain Karber, and others filled the sacred program.

The Gun Club Contests at San Pedro Park

Yesterday at San Pedro park the Gun Club held spirited matches with prizes. In the first match five single birds at 21 yards rise, final scores listed. Jones won the tie on a shoot off. Third prize went to several shooters, with Dooley and McMillen splitting the second money.

Froboese & Sandeben Floats Face Delay on Alamo Plaza

One of Froboese and Sandeben’s teams became bogged on Alamo plaza on Saturday afternoon. The wagon carried a 9000 pound boiler and had traversed the city with no hindrance until this misfortune. The firm has ten more floats en route from Philadelphia.

A large Christmas Eve reception and supper honored newlywed Jud G Fry and his bride Ella Gregory of La Grange at the Fry home on Avenue E. Judge B I Boone Dies at 33 In San Antonio

Judge Boone dies after a brilliant legal career born in Cherokee county. He served as Probate Judge in Columbia 1874 to 1876 and practiced law with Tarleton in San Antonio. He leaves a wife and three children. Funeral from Episcopal church at 3 pm with Mormon and Odd Fellows attendance.

An inebriated crowd fired pistols during a Sunset depot gathering on Christmas Eve. Aleck Williams fled and was struck by a hail of rocks after a drunken dispute, leaving one man fatally gashed in the head.

Oppenheimer Brothers Foiled by Forged Check

D and A Oppenheimer faced a forged $120 check drawn on Kampmann and Lockwood. A man calling himself Shoemaker, later identified as Price, handled the note signed W S Sutherland of Stockdale. The brothers paid $6 cash and $34 in goods, awaiting the bank later. The overcoat worth $27 was recovered from a pawn shop. the swindler fled town.

Motion in arrest of judgment in Ignatz Webber case

In Recorder's court Mr. T. Anderson moved to arrest judgment after a $150 fine in the Ignatz Webber case. He argued the affidavit failed to name the liquor buyer, leaving the defense unable to prove innocence and claiming the affidavit was too general. The motion was overruled.

Cohen and Koenigheim Face Insolvent Business Status

Cohen and Koenigheim filed a statement of business condition with the County Clerk showing assets of 42752.48 against liabilities of 45269.90. The largest creditor is Hamibil Whitehead & Weismann in New York City for 8627, with 33 other New York houses holding claims. San Antonio creditors include Joseph Zadich 1600, D A Oppenheimer 306.15, and E Ruff 9158. They are not expected to resume business soon.

A Hungry Burglar Sighting Stuns Commerce Street

Simon Morris, a Commerce Street clothier, reports a burglary attempt at No. 308 Third Street during Christmas morning around 2 o'clock. The thief cut three shutters, entered the dwelling, raided the parlor and bedrooms, and devoured items in the kitchen before Mrs. Morris’s screams drove him away. silverware in the parlor remained untouched.

Lane discharged in vagrancy case at Recorder court

C H Lane faced vagrancy charges before the Recorder. Witnesses mocked him and testified to a life spent in barrel houses with no steady work. The Recorder dismissed the case after testimony and Lane received the benefit of the doubt. In a separate incident at Stein's saloon across the San Pedro a brawl left Ramirez with a gash and three men detained by Officer Gleason.
