A meteor blast rocked north central Idaho near Lewiston on December 23, lighting a wide area and shaking buildings in multiple towns. Eyewitnesses reported a brilliant flash, with observers in Lewiston Grangeville Troy and Clarkston noting the ground tremor. Geology Professor Fr. Tavey said the disturbance resembles a meteor airburst and likened it to a prior event nine years earlier.
Representative Jobin W. Hummers of Washington moved for a six percent increase in the wheat tariff to protect American farmers from further disaster.

William Weilbacher, wealthy landowner of Culebra and Willcrest, shot himself during Christmas breakfast with his father in law and wife present. Coroner ruled suicide by gunshot after investigation by Judge R. W. Stappenbeck. Weilbacher had been moody recently. funeral arrangements to be announced.
In Pittsburgh a raid on a tailor shop yielded five one gallon cans of moonshine. An 8 year old, Ate Perlin, claimed the moonshine was used for a bath and denied drinking or selling it. Perlin was ordered held as police pursue further inquiry into the tale.
In Talle Wook Arkansas on December 36, Senator Joe T. Robinson argues a firing or shortened workweek could reduce unemployment. He says current $110 million public works appropriation seems inadequate to spur jobs and relief in the United States.
Three captured soldiers named John L. Diasio Tao A. Haines and Patrick Sreenes fled from Camp Bulha Fale Wisnes, stealing an old truck from a Mexican on the Frederickburg road. Military police cordoned routes from the camp and searched roads toward San Antonio but failed to locate them by noon. Diasio and Feinen were deserters and Aweevey a noncommissioned officer previously convicted for strike-related offenses.
Pilgrims thronged the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem to worship at the traditional birthplace of Christ. A marble manger and a silver star mark the exact spot, as crowds prayed and bells rang during the Holy Night observance.

Forty two prisoners were rejected from the jail at noon Wednesday, mostly on serious charges. Within hours several were back in jail on charges of drinking and excess, while the AG granted fines Thursday. Eighteen hours later, 64 prisoners were in the daily count.
A midnigh t blast struck the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, blowing open a steel door and shattering windows on one side. The explosion caused debris to fall on a lower level while occupants sheltered inside, with authorities estimating property damage and inspecting for further risks.

Berlin reports medical students will study head and neck diseases using a mechanical man created by Dr Franz Haalinger of Vienna. The device features over 100 detachable parts to simulate symptoms and conditions, replacing the traditional cadaver for anatomical study.
Early morning fire sweeps upper floor of a frame building in Whiting killing four men who slept on the second floor and injuring two others. A trapped resident jumped to the ground as flames spread rapidly through bed clothing and wearing apparel. The blaze caused minor structural damage while authorities name Nick Slemick among the injured.
A cold spell is forecast for Friday following light showers in San Antonio on Wednesday and Thursday. In Cleveland tonight 35 year old Telar Bosper stepped from his home as friends and children watched. Four bullets struck him and he died at a hospital. The shooting occurred in front of his residence late last night.
Two people died within half an hour of each other after separate automobile accidents in Wichita Falls Texas early today. Victims were Miss Maude North a longtime church and community worker and Thomas Davenport a 72 year old retired farmer born in Texas.
