Gilbert H. Beesemyer, 45, ex Hollywood financier, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of grand theft in Los Angeles. He faces a maximum of 140 years in prison for stealing about 8 million dollars from the Guaranty Building and Loan Association of Los Angeles, where he was secretary manager and stockholder.

In Colubus Kansas on December 23 a neighborhood pooled funds to present Christmas presents to Alm Brecy Moonay widow of a man who died in a farm accident while contracted to repair a township road. One hundred workers and owners of trucks fulfilled the contract, raised 400 dollars, and gave it to the widow and her four children.

San Antonio officers pursued two escapees and two accomplices after a jail break led by a ladder at the side wall. The men, linked to a Blanco county bank and a confectionery theft, fled in a car with the prisoners, while a fourth inmate remained in custody. Authorities warned local officers and extended the manhunt into nearby counties as threats against a San Antonio resident surfaced during investigations.
