A Timely Restoration in Venice for Dorothy and Paul
In Venice on the Fourth of July, Dorothy Stoneman, a Chicago girl visiting with her father, wanders away and befriends a Venetian girl Bettina. A boy named Paul Matthews helps locate Dorothy after she fears she is lost. Dorothy learns of Paul’s American home in Boston and Duke companionship as they ride a gondola and reunite with her father. An overarching Venice scene frames the tale with local color and patriotism reawakening as Dorothy realizes independence and the Fourth of July in a foreign land.
