Changes urged for safety at sea by international committee
London Dec 19 The committee on life saving appliances appointed by the International Congress on Safety at Sea approved recommendations to be sent to the January congress. Plans include boats for all with space for davits, pontoon rafts for 25 percent, recognized life boats for the remainder, and some motorboats. Fire danger rules prevent cargoes endangering lives, plus patrols for fire detection and pumps for extinguishing. Manning and boat hands’ qualifications sparked debate between one and three years of service. Thirty national experts expect congress approval.
